The Wild Ones

Passion as hot as midnight in the South and love as wild as the horses they tame.

Camille “Cami” Hines is the darling daughter of the South’s champion thoroughbred breeder, Jack Hines. She has a pedigree that rivals some of her father’s best horses. Other than feeling a little suffocated at times, Cami thought she was pretty happy with her boyfriend, her life and her future.

But that was before she met Patrick Henley.

“Trick” blurs the lines between what Cami wants and what is expected of her. He’s considered the “help,” which is forbidden fruit as far as her father is concerned, not to mention that Trick would be fired if he ever laid a hand on her. And Trick needs his job. Desperately. His family depends on him.

The heart wants what the heart wants, though, and Trick and Cami are drawn to each other despite the obstacles. At least the ones they know of.

When Trick stumbles upon a note from his father, it triggers a series of revelations that could ruin what he and Cami have worked so hard to overcome. It turns out there’s more to Trick’s presence at the ranch than either of them knew, secrets that could tear them apart.

Wow, was this one smokin' hot book! The mature warning label was no joke. From the beginning, Cami and Trick see sex in each other, to the point where it does seem overdone. Every time that the two lay eyes on each other, their minds go to the gutter. It's pretty hot, but it does seem as though the entire story revolves around their sexual attraction to each other when there is so much more than that, like their shared love of horses. Other bases for their attraction could have been developed more so that it's not all about the sexiness.

Cami and Trick banter a lot, especially during their first meeting. With their exchange of  wit and flirtatious wit, I knew that I was going to like them. Cami is gorgeous and sensible, but she also possesses a sense for adventure. Though she's careful about the rules, she also goes after what she wants. Trick, too, possesses integrity. He's the guy who quit college to support his mother and sister when they need the help, but he hasn't let go of his dreams of working with horses. In the process of support them, he ends up working for Jack Hines, who warns him off his daughter. Too bad he already fell for her the other day without knowing her identity.

This story is akin to a modern-day Romeo and Juliet, though they aren't both nobility. Cami is the gorgeous rich girls that guys would love to show off, and Trick is the hired hand. There is a fair amount of info dumping, and much of the plot focus is on Cami and Trick's mutual sexual attraction to each other. However, it still didn't take too much away from my enjoyment of the story, which was centered mostly upon wondering how Cami and Trick would overcome the obstacles to being together and the fun, risky adventures they engage in along the way with their friends Jenna and Rusty.

M. Leighton was born and raised in the United States. Though she currently lives in the deep South, she spent much of her childhood up North and hopes to return there one day. She believes that coffee and chocolate, when combined, could be the basis for world peace. Summer's too hot, winter's too cold, and fall was made for football. She likes dogs better than cats and knows that the first movie in a trilogy is invariably the best. Most of all, she believes that love conquers all.
